The Lost Boys

Stanford University

imagesThis is my plp project that we do every year in my teacher, Mr. Miller’s class. I am doing my plp on Stanford University because I want to learn more about it. In my second paragraph, I will tell you about Stanford the school. In my third paragraph, I will tell you about what you need to do to get into Stanford, like your grades and tests you need to take. In my fourth paragraph, I will tell you about Stanford’s college life and the many things available to students outside of class.

Stanford University was founded by a man named Leland Stanford and his wife named Jane Lathrop1324882208_0cb31e9a22 Stanford. They created Stanford University as a memorial for their son Leland Stanford Jr., who had died in Italy of typhoid just a few weeks before his 16th birthday. They used their farm lands in Palo Alto, California to build the school for higher education. Stanford enrolls about 6,700 undergraduates and about 8,000 graduates from the United States and out of the United States each year. Stanford has many kinds of schools including Stanford Business School, Stanford Law School, Stanford School of Medicine, and Stanford School of Engineering. Stanford’s alumni has founded companies including Nike, Hewlett-Packard, Electronic Arts, Sun Microsystems, Nividia, Yahoo!, Cisco Systems, Sillicon Graphics, and Google.

Stanford University has many requirements to apply to their school. Their application cost is $90 and is due November 1. Only 9% of students who apply get accepted. The things you need to do to apply to Stanford include: essays, SAT or ACT test, if you submit the ACT test you must do the writing section. The SAT test is recommended. The following is a list of the most important things they consider to get into Stanford: what kind of person you are, what rank you are in your high school class, the essay you write to get into college, activities outside of class like sports or any clubs you’re in, a letter your teacher writes to the college recommending you to their school, how hard the classes that you take in high school, SAT scores, what talents you have, and your GPA like if you had a 4.0 or 3.5. Also considered are: alumni relation, meaning if someone related to you went to Stanford, where you live, racial status, volunteer work, your work experience, and if you are the first person in your family to go to college.

It is located in a the bay area and their is a lot to do there; cultural activities, recreational activities, sporting events. The campus is beautiful and the weather is perfect. It is a great academic school; it is in the top 10 every year. Stanford has a lot of great athletes and a lot of their teams win championships. One of the longest traditions is the Big Game. The Big Game is where Stanford plays its rival, Cal Berkeley in football. There last game was their 112th game against Cal. The first Big Game was held on March 19, 1892 on San Francisco’s Haight Street Grounds and Stanford won 14-10. This rivalry is the 10th longest rivalry in NCAA division one in FBS football. Stanford leads the series record:55-46-11 (wins, loses, ties). Cal won the most recent Big Game at 34-28.
